Get to know the craftHand-turned in Channapatna. Lac colour pressed on while the wood spins, buffed with a leaf. Then given a screen-time problem.
Every character has a situation: a signal, a reel, a pull request. You’ll recognise it. Your colleagues may feel personally attacked.
Story sleeve, made-by card, a handwritten gift note if you want one. For the always-late friend, the terminally online bestie, or yourself.

Grown-up things. Decorative collectibles for adult desks and shelves, in the spirit of the Channapatna gombe. Not a toy, and not for children under 14.
Hand-turned ivory wood (aale mara), natural lac colour, leaf-polished. The same tradition that made the gombe on your ajji’s shelf, with slightly more existential dread on the base.
Desk-sized. Between 6 and 11 cm tall, depending on the character. Big enough to have a presence, small enough to survive a desk move.
Channapatna, about 60 km from Bengaluru, by makers who have been turning wood and pressing lac colour onto it for generations. Each piece is hand-turned, so no two are identical.
We ship across India. Orders leave in 2–3 business days and usually arrive in 4–7 business days. Shipping is ₹80, free over ₹1,999.
Write to us within 7 days of delivery and we will sort it: a replacement for anything damaged in transit, or a return for an unused piece in its box. Full terms are on the shipping and returns page.
That is very much the idea. Add a gift note at checkout and we will put it in the box, handwritten. No prices on the packing slip.
Close, not identical. Lac colour sits differently on every turn of wood, so each piece has its own grain and its own small quirks. That is the point of buying something made by hands.
Yes. These six are the first collection. More local stories and uncomfortably familiar personalities follow. Follow @thegubbi to hear first.
